word to my motha('s day)

I have a pretty awesome mama- as many others would claim they do, too- but i'd like to make the argument that mine's the best. She's loving, caring, giving, and a menagerie of other warm adjectives. And don't think i'm doing this post because i want extra Christmas presents or money because this post can could be confused as, a 'sucking up' post. (I already know I'm her favorite, I see it in her eyes.)
But ya know, she makes all of her children and granddogs feel like the favorite
(except for my sister's dog, goose, ha!)
That's why I love her.
(my mama- not my sister's dog, goose- although i do love him, i digress)
It's the unconditional, unbiased love that she shows to each of us that makes us (my brother, older sister, and little sister) feel like we are her favorite.

Mama's in the kitchen today cooking a mother's day meal for us.
Ham, lima beans, field peas, sweet potatoes, and yeast rolls.
Yep, you read that right, cooking on what should be a holiday for her.

Here's a pic of me and my mama.
Apalachicola, Fl. Spring 2011

here's a picture taken a year ago, on mother's day, actually.
(it coincidentally features "the least favorite" granddog- see why he's the least favorite? he's an animal, literally!)
and with that being said, here's a word to my motha:

happy mother's day, mama!
roo and I love you so much and wouldn't know what to do or where'd we be- without you!

egyptian eyes

on my last day of therapy, in my fourth semester of grad school, my last client, A, came through the door. she ran towards me and handed me this card.
A- ms laura, i made you this card
me- oh thank you, i love it!
A- I drew us on the front, see? you are this one (the one of the left)
I guess that's how my hair looks when I'm doing therapy but i'll never know.
A- see how I drew Egyptian eyes?
me- yes, i do see how you drew Egyptian eyes, you did a really good job drawing us.
A- I drew Egyptian eyes because you have Egyptian eyes
me- ..... (eh hem)
Egyptian eyes is definitely a first for me.

here's the inside
it reads:
dear laura, I'll miss  you lots! I love playing games and working with you! Love, A

A, I'll miss you, too!

who? my BFF

besides having a straping young man helping me move home from my home of 6 years, Valdosta, ga, I had more help from my BFF. I have talked about her here and here. I would probably still be working on cleaning my apartment. I don't think I can ever thank her enough. Oh, I know, how about I thank her with her very own blog post, completely dedicated to her.

things I love about my BFF (in no particular order):
She's a mother (of five doodlebugs)
her five doodlebugs
her poppyseed chicken
her family (my second parents)
her cool new ride, the minivan
her prayers
her honesty
her opinion
how we look like sisters
our chats on the phone
our text conversations
the fact that i am one of four people her oldest doodlebug can text
her work ethic
I could probably go on for days, so are you ready to see a picture of us?
Here's we are- around Christmas time....that's the only picture i have to share since that's the last picture we've taken.... isn't that pathetic? we should really get more pictures of us together.

the question is- who do you have to clean out old stuff, scrub your shower and toilet better than their own bathroom?
who do i have? my BFF :)
Love you, Aimee and your doodlebugs :)

weekend at a glance

whew! have i had a busy weekend!
Friday started off by moving all of my "big" furniture to my new home. I had a very special helper helping me move (on his 31st birthday no less!) The weather was nice- making the move tolerable.
Saturday I had a wedding shower for my good friend, N. The food at the shower was the best 'shower food' i had ever had. Kudos to those chefs. I continued to unpack on Saturday and Sunday. Tonight I went to my good friend A's house to have her version of sloppy joes (picture will follow). Since I don't have any pictures from moving furniture, we'll start with pictures from saturday and work our way up to Sunday and the sloppy joe incident ;)
Pear punch at the shower- delish!
the dessert table- to die for!
the bride-to-be and me at the shower
a really neat gift N got at the shower (something blue)
had one of these at A's house tonight, our favorite beer :D
we continued planning the bride-to-be's bachelorette party (it's this coming weekend and it's gonna be a blast!)
oh and if you thought i forgot about posting the "sloppy joes" that A made, I didn't.
the dialogue went a little like this...
A- (after draining the meat, goes to the pantry and pulls out the Ragu)
me- (thinking- A must have a different way of making sloppy joes- I keep my mouth shut)
after pouring in the Ragu
me- "so how do you make sloppy joes?"
A- (stops- realizing that she just made spaghetti instead of sloppy joes)
I laughed... and told her how I don't eat spaghetti
her sweet husband went and bought more hamburger meat and A started cooking supper over again.
so maybe that story was a little anti-climatic but it was pretty funny
and last but certainly not least, the Manwich sloppy joes made my special way on a toasted bun, with mayo and pickles served open faced... thanks for supper, A!
